Sulzer Metco's Management Team is equipped with knowledge, experience and expertise to provide solid leadership. These executives are responsible for all aspects of the company and operate from our many locations all over the world.

César Montenegro, President
As Division President, César Montenegro brings valuable knowledge and skills to Sulzer Metco, having a proven track record in leading and growing complex businesses, energizing people and increasing performance. Since beginning his career with Sulzer in 1978, César Montenegro has held various general management positions in Venezuela, Mexico, Switzerland and the US. Before he was Head of the Business Area North America and President of Sulzer Pumps (US) Inc. with responsibility for manufacturing, sales and services. César Montenegro graduated from the University Simon Bolivar in Caracas and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering with post graduate studies in Business Engineering.

Bruno Gerig, Vice President Human Resources
Bruno Gerig is responsible for Global Human Resource Development and Regulation at Sulzer Metco since 2001. Previously he was also Head of Human Resources in various large Sulzer divisions. Prior to that, he was Head of Design for Sulzer's refrigeration business in South Africa. Bruno Gerig joined the Sulzer corporation in 1980 and holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Howard Lang, Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing
Howard Lang is responsible for worldwide Sales and Marketing at Sulzer Metco. The sales team provides on-site sales and service support to customers in all regions of the world. Howard Lang brings more than 20 years of commercial leadership experience from his previous assignments with Holcim and Hilti in North America, the Middle East and various locations in Europe. Prior to joining Sulzer, he was a member of the Corporate Management Team at Hilti AG in Liechtenstein, responsible for global service and head of a core business unit. He has a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Leeds UK with postgraduate studies in Marketing.

Howard Lang

Friedrich Herold, Executive Vice President Materials
Friedrich Herold has global responsibility for the business unit Sulzer Metco Materials. The Materials business serves the global thermal spray and hardfacing markets from manufacturing sites in Canada, Germany and the US. Before joining Sulzer in 2005, Friedrich Herold spent several years in the Specialty Chemicals industry with Clariant GmbH and Hoechst AG. Recent general management responsibilities were in the area of Electronic Materials and Fine Chemicals. He has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany.

Markus Sauerbruch, Executive Vice President Equipment
Markus Sauerbruch assumes overall responsibility for the business unit Sulzer Metco Equipment with its systems, components and spare parts business. He brings extensive industry experience from his previous position when he was an Associate Principal at the Zurich office of McKinsey & Company and a member of McKinsey's European Leadership Team of Automotive and Assembly Sector. During this time he served various clients from the automotive and machinery industry in Europe, America and Asia. Prior to this position he worked in the automotive supplier industry in Europe and America. Markus Sauerbruch holds a Master in Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) and an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management.

Thomas Gutzwiller, Executive Vice President Components
Thomas Gutzwiller is responsible for the business unit Sulzer Metco Components. This arm of Sulzer Metco entails the wet-friction business of Sulzer Metco Friction Systems and the component business of Turbine Components. In addition, he is responsible for Sulzer Metco China and the development of the divisional strategy Asia. During his over 30 years with Sulzer, Thomas Gutzwiller has served in various management capacities within the company. When Sulzer acquired Metco in 1994, he was in charge of the integration for Sulzer Metco. Before re-joining Sulzer Metco in 2004, he was in charge of Markets & Technology for Sulzer and headed Sulzer Division Pumps from 1998 until 2002. Thomas Gutzwiller holds a Master in Mechanical Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).

Valentin Bühler, Executive Vice President Services
Valentin Bühler assumes overall responsibility for Sulzer Metco's Services consisting of the Thin Film (PVD and Nitriding) and the Thermal Spray Coating businesses. Before joining Sulzer he successfully developed fast- growing markets and expanded into new growth areas in his capacity as Regional Manager/Vice President Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, for Balzers Ltd. Prior to that he gained broad experience in various management positions at international companies within the telecommunications and the IT sector (Unaxis, Global One and Atraxis). He holds master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering, from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich(ETH) and in Business Administration, from the University of St. Gallen.

Marc Hamacher

Marc Hamacher, Vice President Finance and Controlling
Marc Hamacher assumes overall responsibility for Finance, Controlling and IT of Sulzer Metco. Marc Hamacher joined Sulzer in 2001 and has held various senior Finance & Controlling and General Management positions within Sulzer Metco. Before joining Sulzer, he worked in the power transmission and belting industry for Habasit Group in Controlling and Marketing functions in Switzerland and Germany. Marc Hamacher has a degree in Economics from the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, Germany.
