The newest mechanical designs for gearboxes require ever-better friction linings. In particular, modern transmissions are of a compact lightweight construction to promote efficiency.
Components that employ friction linings include synchronizers, multiple disk clutch assemblies, transducer clutch assemblies and gear components. For these components, the requirements for constant frictional coefficients, resistance to wear, surfaces that tolerate oils, good overload behavior and suitability for continuous slip applications are important requirements.
