Process Description
Hardfacing using Sulzer Metco Woka PTA and welding materials makes use of any of a number of welding processes to apply a wear-resistant material onto a substrate. Most often, the hardfacing material is comprised of a tungsten carbide or chromium carbide material.

Traditional hardfacing employs welding processes such as oxy-acetylene, MIG or PTA welding. The later two are preferred because they can be automated and generally produce much higher quality welds. In many instances, the hardfaced surface will be ground and finished to dimension.

For specific applications, TuffStudds™ Wear Protection System can be highly effective. These are wear-resistant studs welded in a pattern to the surface to be protected, with additional protection resulting from a "dead-bed" effect.
